Upon reviewing the data collected, the researchers observed that majority of the students that were interviewed through the survey were unaware of the new media implemented by the De La Salle University Library. Only seven (14) out of fifty (100) respondents knew that they could access e-journals using the internet terminals inside DLSU Campus. This is supported by the statistics given by the DLSU Library on the number of individuals logging in the on-line databases. In the span of five (5) months (January 2001 - June 2001), only 2,809 logins were recorded. The total population of the DLSU undergraduates alone is estimated at 13,000. This shows that only a limited number of students are aware of the e-journal services.
In the interview with Ms. Perla T. Garcia, DLSU Library Director, she mentioned that since the e-journals are relatively new, it expected that not a lot of students will know that such a service exists in the university. Measures are being taken to promote and inform the student body to use such technology for their own educational advancement.
In addition, it has been mentioned that this new media technology has indeed help the DLSU Library in terms of operations and finance. But, it has not served its main purpose of targetting a wider audience since only a handfull of students access this service as senn in the statitical reports made by their database providers.
